Winter Doesn’t Stop West Loop Tower Construction in Chicago

Three Chicago tower construction projects in the Halstead Street area of the West Loop are progressing despite the late-season winter weather in Chicago.

At the Gateway Tower, located at the southeast corner of Halsted and Green Streets, the structure — designed by Antunovich Associates — is nearly at its finished height with the addition of the 17th floor. Framing for the 17th floor of the building is underway, and the exterior facade of the building is also progressing, with floor-to-ceiling windows being added to the structure’s residential floors. When finished, the Gateway Tower will contain 167 apartment units.

Halsted and Lake Streets

Construction on a new residential tower is expected to begin at a lot at Halsted and Lake Streets. The site, which was cleared in September 2014 and has been empty since, is showing renewed signs of activity. The site has been leveled and clean fill had been added. Banners indicate Focus Construction as the builder of the project, which is expected to result in a 28-story rental apartment tower containing 227 units. Developers are Shapack Partners, Focus Development and Atlantic Realty Partners.

725 West Randolph Street

A property at 725 West Randolph Street may be in transition as negotiations began on a high-rise apartment tower projected for the site, according to Curbed. An apparently stalled project may be revived as the company Related Midwest enters negotiations for the property at 723-729 West Randolph Street. The property has already been approved for a 220-unit apartment tower. The final fate of the project is still unclear, but it may get a boost from a possible switch from apartments to condos.
