SkyRise, Miami’s Tallest Tower, Is Underway and Set to Open in 2017

SkyRiseMiami’s newest and tallest tower is currently under construction and is scheduled to be finished by 2017.

SkyRise Miami is expected to be the tallest tower building in the city when it is finished, according to Building Design & Construction.

Rising to a height of 305 meters, the tower is expected to include three viewing decks for visitors and tourists. Also included will be several restaurants, retail shops, a nightclub, a ballroom, a theatre, and substantial exhibition space for artwork or events.

Plans also call for an adventure service that will offer bungee jumps from the tower’s upper levels.

The asymmetrical building faces south above Biscayne Bay. Taking advantage of nontraditional style, the tower will feature a large canopy structure at the bottom of an expansive sweeping curve. The canopy will shelter an outdoor amphitheater intended for live musical performances or other larger-scale events.

Overall, the curving, flowing outline of the canopy side of the structure will give the building a symbolic look that the designer believes will represent flowing water, active marine life, or tropical environments, suitable archetypes for Miami construction.

The SkyRise Miami tower was designed by the firm Arquitectonica. The tower is expected to meet LEED Gold standards when it’s finished and put into operation.

In a press statement, Arquitectonica reps said that the tower, “welcomes our visitors from the south into North America. It is our abstract version of the Statue of Liberty. A sculpture to view from afar, and also to explore within.”
