Cleveland Construction to Include Renovations to Indians’ Progressive Field

progressive fieldNew Cleveland construction projects include a recently announced renovation to Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians baseball team.

In August 2014, the team announced that the extensive renovation, called “The Progressive Field Evolution,” will begin in the off season of 2014. The majority of the project is expected to be finished by opening day of the 2015 season, with any remaining work to be completed in the early part of the season.

One of the most significant changes will be a reduction in the stadium’s seating capacity. Plans call for a reduction from 43,000 seats to somewhere between 37,000 and 38,000 available seats.

Other changes include a renovated entrance at East Ninth Street’s Gate C, a new wall beyond right center field, and a new bullpen.

A group seating area will also be built. Additional options will be available in a new two-story bar for adults and a revised and expanded Kids Clubhouse. The kids’ area will include a batting cage, pitching machine and climbing wall.

The renovations will be privately funded, meaning that no taxpayer money will be used for the project. Delaware North, the team’s food and beverage provider, will contribute to the renovation.

The renovations and improvements come in response to the team’s intention to rekindle interest in attending the live sporting event and improve ticket sales. At one time, the team easily filled the stadium’s 43,000 seats and holds the record for selling out 455 straight games between June 12, 1995, and April 4, 2001. In more recent years, however, attendance has dropped substantially, averaging about 19,000 attendees per game.

Ticket prices are expected to remain the same after the Progressive Field renovation.
